Belém Tower ticket with a host

A host meets you outside Belém Tower, runs through its story for a few minutes and hands over your timed ticket, then you climb from the cannon casemates to the roof terrace on your own. Pick it when the official slot booking looks like a chore, or your date shows full there, and you simply want to be sure of getting in.

Belém Tower Entry Ticket with Host

About this experience

Ticket Online sells Belém Tower entry on Viator as a small package. A host meets you at the tower on Avenida Brasília, gives you a few minutes of history outside, then sends the timed tickets to your phone. The listing's inclusions are exactly three: admission, a host until entry, and a brief history. There is no guide inside and no pickup. Viator calls it a 2-hour trip, but most of that is your own visit.

Do the maths before you book. The official ticket costs EUR 15 for an adult, EUR 7.50 for ages 13 to 24 and over 65, and nothing up to age 12, on the official MMP shop, where you pick a date and a half-hour slot. At $34, this listing charges roughly double for the same entry plus the short talk. It still earns its place for some people: if the Portuguese shop and its separate slot step put you off, if your day looks full there, or if you want the whole Lisbon trip on one Viator account.

Two caveats. It is non-refundable and cannot be changed for any reason, so book it only once your date is fixed. And 18 reviews is a thin record. The two newest give five stars for the views, the terrace and the cannon rooms. A 2-star review from August 2026 says the host talked for about 10 minutes, asked for a review before sending the tickets, then left. If you want someone with you inside, the guided tower tour costs more, keeps a guide beside you and can be cancelled up to 24 hours ahead.

  • Belém Tower entry for a fixed half-hour slot
  • A short history talk outside before you go in
  • Your own pace inside: casemates, halls, loggia and roof terrace
  • The carved rhinoceros on the bastion, considered the first in Western European art
  • One booking in English, with the tickets sent to your phone

How the day runs

  1. Before you goCheck your slot

Entry runs in half-hour slots from 09:30 to 17:00, with at most 60 people inside at once. Be on Avenida Brasília 15 minutes before yours.

  2. About 10 minMeet the host outside

The host covers the basics: built 1514 to 1519 for King Manuel I by Francisco de Arruda, part of a river defence line, later a prison. Then the tickets land on your phone.

  3. Your slotScan in at the bastion

Tickets are checked at the tower. The bastion comes first, with its 17 cannon embrasures just above the water.

  4. 45 to 60 minUp the spiral stair

One narrow spiral staircase links the four floors, shared up and down, so groups move in waves. On the way: the Governor's Hall, the King's Hall with its loggia, the Audience Hall and the chapel.

  5. At the topRoof terrace

The terrace looks across the Tagus to the 25 de Abril bridge and back over Belém. On the way out, stop on the bastion terrace by the domed watchtowers.

What guests say

★★★★★

This is a great experience. The Tower offers great views over the river and towards the city. Worth it.

★★★★★

Tower is awesome...pretty plain inside but the history and outside terrace and cannon rooms were incredible.

Tips before you book

  • Never post a review before the tickets are on your phone. One guest says the host asked for a rating first, then sent the tickets and left. You owe nobody a review in advance.
  • Open the official shop for your date before you book. If a EUR 15 slot suits you there, buy it and keep the difference.
  • Travel light. The tower's rules ban large bags, big backpacks, food, drink, selfie sticks and tripods.
  • Take tram 15E to Largo da Princesa, the closest stop, or the Cascais line train to Belém and walk 15 to 20 minutes west along the river.

Frequently asked questions

Is the $34 Belém Tower ticket worth it compared with the official EUR 15?

Only if you value the convenience. The entry is the same timed ticket; the extra buys a short talk from a host and one Viator booking in English. If the official shop has your slot, EUR 15 (EUR 7.50 for ages 13 to 24 and over 65, free up to 12) is the better deal. Our Belém Tower tickets guide walks through the slot booking.

Can I cancel the Belém Tower entry ticket with host?

No. The listing is non-refundable and cannot be changed for any reason. If you need flexibility, the guided tower tour has free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Does a guide come inside Belém Tower with me?

No. The listing excludes a guide: the host stays until entry and you visit on your own. A 2-star review from August 2026 says the host talked for about 10 minutes, asked for a review, sent the tickets and left. The two 5-star reviews are about the tower itself: the views, the terrace and the cannon rooms.

How long does the visit inside take?

Plan 45 minutes to an hour. The tower is about 30 m tall, with four floors above the bastion linked by one narrow spiral stair, and the rooms are mostly bare stone. The loggia and the roof terrace with their river views are the payoff.
